Back to the Basics.

This month I have been working on the basics. I have retaken some art courses and also tried some new ones, just so I can feel like I am in more control with my art. It’s very basic stuff, like drawing the five basic shapes in 3D then adding or subtracting shapes to create pretty much anything. Everything comes down to the basics whether you are playing a sport or drawing a cityscape for a new book.

I’ve also been drawing hands. Hands are the second best way to show expression besides the face. I want to get better at drawing hands - and faster too. To do this, I am drawing 100 hands by Valentine’s Day. Let me know if you want to be a hand model.

As I keep pushing forward, practicing the basics, and taking on new projects I hope it all leads to finding an agent who wants to represent me and my art. The ultimate goal is to travel the world doing book signings, and selling art, until then I’ll keep working. Thanks for being here.

Beginners.

‘Nobody tells this to people who are beginners…’

Happy New Year! 2024 began with me being surrounded by my family and friends. We played silly games, strategy games, and trivia games long into the night until it was time to bring in the new year. This December was spent at home with my family. My kids get two weeks off of school so we were able to pack a lot of fun things and relaxing days into those two weeks. It was just what we needed. Oh, and we got our son a drum set so it wasn’t a quiet Christmas.

With school back in session it’s quiet here now. A bit too quiet. It has given me a chance to make some goals for the year and reflect on what I accomplished last year.

It’s the beginning of a new year and in many ways I am still very much a beginner artist. Ira Glass said this about beginners:

I find myself in this stage, fighting my way through. Some days it’s easier than others to put in the effort, but with consistency it will pay off and that gap will become narrower.

So, to all of use who are beginners, I feel you. I know what it’s like. Let do the work and see where it takes us. Happy New Year!

Here’s some work that I’ve put in the past month.
